Inspeximus allowing liberties to the Abbey of Battle, 1432.

Contains a copy of an inspeximus of pleas, charters, and proceedings in Eyre and in Exchequer, allowing liberties to the Abbey of Battle. The Documents are of various dates between Richard I and Henry VI. It is dated 15 Feb. 10 Henry (VI) 1432 and is followed by transcripts of documents of Edward IV and Henry VIII. The inspeximus does not appear on the Patent Roll of the year, although other similar acts do. The "Wye" referred to, is a church of the patronage of the Abbey.

The Benedictine abbey of St. Martin at Battle, Sussex; founded by William the Conqueror to commemorate his victory over Harold at Hastings. The abbey possessed lands in Sussex, Berkshire, Essex, Surrey, and Kent. After the Dissolution, the abbey and its immediately adjacent lands, together with the lands in Sussex and Kent, were sold to Sir Anthony Browne, Henry VIII's Master of the Horse, whose son Anthony was created 1st Viscount Montague in 1554.
